Smyrna produces large, long, pear-shaped fruit with a smooth light-yellow flesh. The aromatic fruit will turn pale pink and stay firm when cooked. They have a high pectin content and are excellent for quince paste, jellies and jams and quince paste. The raw flesh is tart and hard.

This deciduous tree has an upright spreading habit. The tree has an ornamental quality, with slightly twisting branches and attractive white blossom with a pale pink flush. Fruit are formed on two-year old wood.
