Fruit ripening time: May - June

 

Northern Spy is much tarter than many popular varieties, with a characteristic subacid flavour. The creamy-yellow coloured flesh is hard, crisp and mildly sweet, with a rich aromatic flavour.

 

Large size apple, with a yellow-green background and red flush.

 

A hardy and vigorous tree, with a tendency towards biannual cropping.

 

Uses: Used in cider blends. Useful for baking and will keep its shape when cooked. Excellent keeping qualities. Also useful as a rootstock. 

 

Pollinators: Akané, Braeburn, Brown's Apple, Democrat, Esopus Spitzenburg, Gala, Golden Delicious, Improved Foxwhelp,splendou Kingston Black, Pine Gold Pippin, Splendour, Stoke Red, Tydeman's Early Worcester, Yarlington Mill, and late white flowering Crabapples, especially ioensis Plena.
