Fruit ripening time: March - April
When home grown, and allowed to fully ripen on the tree, the Golden Delicious lives up to its name, which is exceptionally sweet and rich, with a firm white flesh. The flavour will be milder in warmer climates.
Small to medium sized apples, pale green to golden in colour.
Originating a chance seedling in Virginia, this apple is a parent to many popular and well-known apples.
Uses: Fresh eating, salads, apple sauce, apple butter, and also great in baking.
Tree Size:
Dwarf: Can be kept to 1.5 m and grown in containers. Must be staked.
Semi-dwarf: 3 - 5 m tall, depending on shape
Pollinators: Akané, Braeburn, Brown’s Apple, Cleopatra, Cox’s Orange Pippin, Democrat, Esopus Spitzenburg, Fuji, Granny Smith, Improved Fox Whelp, Jonathan, Kingston Black, Northern Spy, Pine Gold Pippin, Red Delicious, Splendour, Tydeman's Early Worcester, Worcester Pearmain, Yarlington Mill and white flowering Crabapples.
Flowering Group 4 and partially self-fertile.
